Tennis draws

After a frustrating French open men's final, Wimbledon has really come alive. The match between Ivanovic and Dechy was nail biting with a net ball preventing an upset of the French open champion. Djokovic who was in the semifinal draw of Federer had a very poor game against the unpredictable Safin. Roddick lost a chance to meet Nadal in the semi final with a loss against Tipsarevich. The troubled Davydenko had an early first round exit.

The top four men's seeding in order are Federer, Nadal, Djokovic and Davydenko. Though it no longer matters, I wondered why Federer was pitched to play against Djokovic in the semi final and not Davydenko. Here is what I found out about the rules for constituting a draw. The top two seeds constitute two different halves. The next two seeds are placed in different halves chosen randomly constituting a quarter. The next four seeds are placed in different quarters chosen randomly and so on.

Haven't seen a single Wimbledon match yet! Been following the draws though. Now is the right time to jump in, and start viewing.

Who are you rooting for?

FedEx has been my all time favorite but was disappointed seeing him play the French Open final. With Nadal making giant strides on his game this year and the unpredictable Safin looking dangerous, Federer sure has his hands full. Will be tough but am currently sticking with the champion.

Yes its a good time to start watching from the QF/SF stage. Thats when the match quality is at its highest.

Hey,

Did you see the final? It was fantastic!

Yes I did. One of the best games of tennis I have seen albeit a bit disappointed in the end.

Wimbeldon final was one of the best I have ever seen. To both FedEx and Nadal, the draw rules didnt matter at all. These guys are setting the standards really high.

Yes Djokovic was a contender till he lost his form badly starting with the French. I hope the FedEx Nadal rivalry reaches the Borg/McEnroe Becker/Edberg proportions!
